Things to check, in order:
1. The tool: the agent decides which tool to use by understanding what each tool can do and matching it to the task. Describe each tool plainly, and make sure at least one tool is connected to the agent.
2. Chat memory: Simple Memory stores the chat history in the workflow data under the Session Key you enter, and Context Window Length sets how many previous interactions it uses. In queue mode, Simple Memory doesn't work in an active production workflow.
3. The model: the agent needs a chat model connected, or n8n shows an "A Chat Model sub-node must be connected" error.
To get help faster, paste your workflow JSON (remove credentials and API keys first) and your n8n version.
