OpenAI's help page on web search does not name a setting or prompt that stops made-up sources. What it does say:
- Answers that use web search can include citations. Select a citation to open its source.
- Search results and citations can be incomplete, outdated or incorrect, so open each cited source and check that it supports the answer before you use it.
- To search on purpose, select View all tools, then Search, and send your question. Web search is available on the Free plan, subject to usage limits.
