What I'm trying to do
I'm calling the OpenAI API from my code and every request fails with a 429 error that says insufficient_quota. But I pay for ChatGPT Plus every month, so I don't get why I'm out of quota.
Isn't my subscription supposed to cover this? What do I need to do to make the API work?
ChatGPT and the API are billed separately. OpenAI's billing help says API usage is billed separately from your ChatGPT subscription, so a Plus plan doesn't pay for API calls.
1. Set up API billing: add a payment method in your API account billing settings at platform.openai.com/settings/organization/billing/overview.
2. Prepaid credits and automatic recharges are set up separately. OpenAI's help article on prepaid billing covers them: help.openai.com/articles/8264644.
If it still fails after that, reply with the full error message. Leave out your key.
