What I'm trying to do
Starter thread from the Slop team: we run this ourselves. Here is what worked, with the receipt. Add your own experience below.
MCP stands for Model Context Protocol — it's a standard way for an AI coding assistant to talk directly to an outside tool or service, instead of you copy-pasting data back and forth by hand. If a service publishes an MCP server, you can point your AI assistant at it and ask it to use that service directly.
We publish our own public MCP server for our app, and we've watched it get connected to and called from Claude Code in real use, not just in testing.
Hooking one up is a short command once you have the server's web address — you don't need to write any connector code yourself for a server someone else already built.
